COVID
As a ministry of Church of Saint Paul, the Home Education Ministry follows all of the policies and procedures related to Covid-19 as they are defined by the Church of Saint Paul and the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis. Currently, this includes maintaining a safe distance from others while in the building, frequent hand washing, and sanitizing of classrooms and bathrooms. You will be asked to sign a liability waiver upon registration.
Parental Responsibilities:
❑ Attend the Required HEM Parent Meeting on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 (Associates are welcome but not required).
❑ Attend all sessions of HEM classes.
❑ Serve as a monitor or in a job that fulfills a monitor responsibility, as scheduled, and substitute as needed. These jobs will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. You are responsible for finding a substitute in the case of an emergency. All workers must have a background check on file & have completed VIRTUS training. For HEM classes, monitors are scheduled in either Group 1 or Group 2 for the entire year to work with the teacher, supervising the students, monitoring their class during special events, and coordinating clean-up in the classroom. You will monitor EVERY OTHER HEM CLASS.
❑ If, in an emergency, you must miss a meeting, you are responsible for finding your own replacement from the list of members. Please notify Elizabeth Myers 763-458-7477 of any monitor substitutions so we can alert teachers and be sure that each classroom is adequately monitored.
❑ Complete one duty (from attached list) for the year (specific instructions will be given).
❑ Ensure your children complete the assignments given by their teachers. Students may be asked to complete one outside-of–class project or 1 to 2 hours of assignments per semester.
❑ Provide each of your 1-12th grade students with the supplies needed for their class.
❑ Register for and attend Family Formation classes at the Church of Saint Paul. (For three unexcused absences, you will be withdrawn from HEM without a refund.)
Special Needs
HEM does not provide individualized educational services. If your child does require services (i.e. PARA) parents MUST arrange for this and communicate plans or develop a plan with HEM leaders. To help benefit your child, please communicate all special needs with your teacher and the coordinators. This includes allergy, vision, speech, learning disabilities, or any other issues that could impact your child or others in the classroom.
Parents of children with food allergies must inform the teacher about appropriate snacks.
Illness
If you or one of your children is ill, you may designate another parent to assume responsibility for and authority over your other children for that session. This is for the safety of your children in case of an emergency. Lisa O'Keefe or Elizabeth Myers must be notified. Illness in the family or an emergency (not errand-running) are the only situations in which this may occur.
Communications
Announcements will be sent via email on the announcement loop. We try to have them emailed the evening before the group meets.
If you have information for Announcements, e-mail the announcement coordinator (link is at the bottom of HEM Announcements emails) by Tuesday at noon. Announcements are for HEM business and home school issues only. If you have personal ads, such as things for sale, local events, etc. (no political posts!), you may post it on the chat loop or you may put them in the files at your own expense, but you must identify it by putting your name and phone # on the top of the page and have approval from either Lisa O'Keefe or Elizabeth Myers.
Also after each HEM class, a brief description from your child’s teacher of what your child’s class did that day, materials your child will need to bring next time, and any assignments will be emailed to you by your teachers. Please read these carefully and follow any directions regarding the next HEM class. This is the primary means of communication between you and your child’s teacher and you are responsible for the information given.
If there is urgent information (i.e. class cancellations that must be conveyed to all members), we will use e-mail/texting to notify you. Please plan to check your e-mail the Thursday night before classes for your announcements. If you do not have access to e-mail, contact another current HEM member.
*If school in Anoka-Hennepin School District #11 is cancelled due to inclement weather, a scheduled HEM class or field trip will be cancelled also.
