Service and Monitor Responsibilities
Below are the lists & descriptions of services and monitoring required for parents. When registering, you will indicate your top three choices. One of each Service (S) and monitor (M) will be required unless the description indicates otherwise. These responsibilities are assigned basically on a first-come, first-serve basis. We will do our best to assign a job you have chosen, but it is not always possible to do so. The number of “people” listed for each job is the minimum to be assigned.

MONITOR CHOICES (contribution per session, shared)

S - Service, M - Monitor, S & M - Service AND Monitor (Some jobs satisfy both duty and monitor responsibility.) S & M Kitchen Coordinator (year-long commitment) – 2 people Set up a system using a small budget which will be provided for you to provide snacks and drinks for Friday morning Home Education Ministry support/topic tables. This includes making coffee, setting up table and chairs and cleaning up afterwards. It requires you come early and stay late after Home Education Ministry. Organize potluck for Open House. S & M Set-Up (one-year commitment) - 3 people Set up needs to be done on the Thursday evenings prior to Home Education Ministry Meetings before 10 p.m. or Friday mornings of Home Education Ministry prior to Mass time. This is a perfect “dad” job. S & M Yearbook Coordinator (year-long commitment) - 1 person Compile pictures from the Photographer, collect Family Pages, design yearbook, make arrangements to have the yearbook printed, and distribute yearbooks. Work with, and coordinate, photographers. S Security (year-long commitment) - 1 person Check lanyards out as parents arrive. Collect and check lanyards back in at the end of class time. Be available near the doors to direct visitors who are not part of HEM. S Craft and Bake Sale (December) - 2 people Coordinate the sale: place announcements, take reservations, set up tables and organize clean up. S Field Trip Coordinator - 2 people Tasks include organizing the location, registration, and payment. You are not responsible for finding chaperones. Children must attend with an adult designated by their parent. There is one Elective day per semester that can be used for an in-house field trip. S Heritage Lab - 1 person Organize field trip to Wargo Nature Center's Heritage Lab. Set up a date through the Anoka County Parks, collect registrations, organize students and chaperones. S Geography Fair/Science Fair - 1-2 people Coordinate, set-up/clean-up, and other details the night of the spring Geography Fair/Science Fair. S Graduation Reception - 2 people Coordinate the reception for the graduation after the grad. ceremony. Includes organizing set-up, working with volunteers and members of the junior class to serve refreshments and clean up. This position works the best if you do not have a graduate. S Vision Screening & Testing Monitor - 1 person Provide vision screening for interested HEM families immediately after a HEM meeting. (Spring) Assist with on-site testing. (Spring) S New Member Coordinator - 1 person Communicate with new members monthly throughout the year to help them acclimate to the group. Be available to answer questions. S Orchestra Hall Coordinator - (year-long commitment) - 1 person (Dates to be determined, usually 2-4 field trips a semester) Organize field trips including registration, payment, sign-in, etc. S Field Day - 1-2 people Set up Track and Field Day for HEM families in Spring. S Open House/Our Lady of Guadalupe Celebration- 3 people Organize Our Lady of Guadalupe themed hospitality for last day of fall semester. Duties include: serving food, guiding teens in setting up tables, clean up. Optional items, some as budget permits: pinatas, small crafts, games, music S School Pictures (October) - 2 people Distribute portrait order materials in the file folders, set up the portraits in October, coordinate helpers to usher the classes to the area where school pictures will be taken, and distribute pictures when they come. S Theater Coordinator - (year-long commitment) - 1 person Organize theater trips to Children’s Theater, Ordway, Open Window Theater, the Guthrie, or other high school performances (dates to be determined, usually 2-4 field trips a semester) Organize field trips including registration, payment, sign-in, etc. Also post in announcements theater performances at the high schools and others that are happening in the area. Can organize groups to these as well. S Winter Family Social (January) - 2-3 people Make arrangements for a winter family social. Make this is an opportunity to meet or reconnect with other home school families in our group. S Fall Couples or Family Social -2 people Schedule a fall date for couples/families to gather outside of HEM. Make this a chance to socialize with other couples/families and have some fun. Post announcement, set up and clean up are your responsibilty. S Rosary Leader - 2 people Lead Rosary at the beginning of class to parents who are not in a monitor position. Location TBD S Fun & Lunch - 2 people Coordinate social time for families (recess) in the activity center or at a nearby park. (2x)/semester. Can be bag lunches or pizza party or potluck or your choice. Coordinator is responsible for set-up and getting clean-up helpers. S - Student Appreciation Coordinator - 2 people Provide opportunity for our students to showcase their talents and work completed outside of Home Education Ministry. Place dates and details in announcements. Student Appreciation is scheduled once per year in the spring. M Classroom/Preschool/Nursery Monitor (4 times each semester commitment) - 12-14 people Assist teacher: includes help during class, monitor discipline and clean up including vacuuming, table & chairs put away and return class box to closet. Indicate level/grade preference if any. M Preschool/K-1 Music-2 people Provide music for preschool class (15 min) and K/1st grade classes (15 min) each week of HEM. M Yearbook Photographer (year-long commitment) - 2 people Take photographs during the year of classroom activities, special speakers, special events and other home school education ministry events. Initiate contact with teachers for photo opportunities in the classroom. Assist Yearbook Coordinator with collecting orders and distributing yearbooks. S or M Cleaning (full year commitment) - 2 people Some families will be needed to clean the bathrooms, the entry areas and to assist coordinators where needed after each HEM session. If this fulfills the monitor requirement, a one-time per semester monitoring as a substitute may be required. S or M Use Me as Needed If you do not have a preference as to a monitor assignment or duty assignment, please indicate so on your registration. You can also indicate “Except for…” For example, if you do not care where you monitor except you do not want to monitor in the nursery, indicate that, this is a greatly appreciated position as it allows us some flexibility. The following are jobs that cover both Service and Monitor and require a commitment of at least 1-3 or more years. If interested in any of the following positions as they open up in the coming years, please contact the HEM Coordinators directly. Topic Table Leader (year-long commitment) - 1 person Provide prayer and social time as a way to build community among parents during class time. 10:15-11:45. Topics are up to you and can either be serious or fun in nature. Responsibilities may include bringing in speakers or having some from within the group. Internet Support & Announcements - (year-long + commitment) – 1 person Coordinate the HEM email loop. Maintain announcements and links, email them to the group the Thursday before HEM meetings, and coordinate any outside announcements to be sent. Must be highly internet ‘savvy’ and work closely with group coordinators. Group Coordinators - (3 -year commitment) – 2 people Teachers - (year-long + commitment) HEM teachers are our only paid positions. If teachers have children in HEM, they are still required to do a service as well. Requirements and payment amounts are different for HEM and elective teachers. Treasurer - (year-long + commitment) – 1 person Maintain all financial records for the group. Create Fall and Spring invoices. Receive and deposit payments. Process teacher payments and pay all invoices and expenses for the group. Works very closely with group coordinators and the church office. |
